YOUR HOST - JOHN BIRCHALL
John Birchall, a respected author and consultant on the EU, John is also a Business & Economics teacher. He has written on many matters relating to business education and has pioneered a number of new uses of Information Technology based learning programs.
He has also worked on projects for the European Parliament and assisted in the development of part of the Virtual School. In recent years he has lectured in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and The Netherlands on matters relating to Business Education and the use of Information Technology
Several years ago John attended an EU Conference designed for school groups. Disappointed with the lack of educational content given in the lectures he decided to design his own EU seminar with the help contacts in Brussels.
Day 1
Arrive in Brussels by your chosen mode of transport. On arrival you'll be greeted by your representative and taken to the hotel. In the evening there will be an informal meeting for the teachers to give them the chance to get to know each other and run through the itinerary.
Day 2
After breakfast you will meet your rep and depart for a morning visit to the European Parliament. The group will be briefed by the information officer who will also hold a Q&A session followed by a visit to the chamber. The group will then move on to the conference centre for a day of EU lectures given by highly esteemed EU experts and authors Subject areas include: The evolution of the EU; The Single Market & Currency; CAP; Enlargement; Regional Policy & External Relations.
Day 3
After breakfast the group will depart by coach for a morning visit to the National Bank of Belgium for a seminar on the role of a central bank, monetary policy & the Euro followed by a Q&A session. Time allowing, students may have the opportunity for last minute shopping before departing for the UK.
