Highlights of this tour.

On our Village Volunteer Experience - Volunteers live and work in the rural villages at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro on a range of exciting projects led by inspiring Tanzanian organisations (projects include sustainable agriculture, HIV/AIDS, small enterprise development and teaching English. This offers an incredible opportunity to experience life in vibrant rural communities but also to make a real contribution to Village life.

Example of the itinerary.

Volunteers get involved with a range of activities as diverse as planting trees, writing and organising drama in English club, to advising a women's craft group on the designs of products to be sold to tourists.
Our local staff is always on hand to translate and to ensure volunteers enjoy their stay. They also organise local excursions: for example you could spend the day walking in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, or cycle down to the volcanic springs of Miwaleni for an exhilarating swim; or if you prefer dance the night away to ‘Bongo Flava'.
You can extend your stay and travel further in Tanzania- climb Kilimanjaro or visit the nearby National Parks of Ngorongoro, Manyara and Serengeti, or bask on the fabulous beaches of the Indian Ocean.
The itinerary is not fixed. Volunteers work with our local staff and partners to plan a mix of project activities with local excursions. There is flexibility to tailor your trip to your own individual interests and skills.

The benefits you bring in making this journey.

Your work as a volunteer directly benefits the local community: for instance as all of secondary school education is in English, pupils really benefit from contact with native English speakers. Our partner organisations gain new insights and ideas from Volunteers, as well as practical contributions to their work.
Your residence in the village enables us to employ a growing number of local staff on good wages, and we ask that all food is purchased locally in order to support the rural economy.
Finally the money you contribute to the placement allows us to fund the work of local partners in improving education and healthcare, supporting sustainable agriculture and in encouraging small enterprise. We are not a travel company but a charity with direct links to the village of Uchira.
