Highlights of this tour.

Being able to work with wild animals and experience the joy given to the underprivileged children

Example of the itinerary.

The day starts at 0700 when we all meet for coffee. The children then help you to do the "stables" which involves cleaning the animal camps, feeding of animals, and general camp maintenance.
Breakfast at 0900 and at 0930 you give lessons in very basic mathematics, English etc...
There is no experience needed as everything is outlined in the teaching and volunteer programme.
Lunch at 1230 then there is a break until 1400 when we do more lessons. Lessons involve games and walks in the bush etc...
The teaching finishes at 1700 when the children play educational games, lego etc... There is time to relax in the lapa with other volunteers until dinner at 1830.

The benefits you bring in making this journey.

The volunteer contribution helps toward the up keep of the animals and also contributes towards the costs of bringing in the children and accommodating them for 5 days each week.

We are a wildlife orphanage where the objective is to look after orphaned wild animal who cannot be rehabilitated and use them as a medium to inspire and educate local underprivileged children to care for their environment.

Every Monday we welcome a new group of 6 local under-privileged children for a week and give them the opportunity to discover, learn and become passionate about wildlife and conservation, their heritage. We also supplement their school curriculum in English, maths, sciences, geography, life skills and social issues. The motto is to "make a plan" so that people with disabilities have a similar life enriching experience.

As a volunteer your main tasks will be teaching the children, working with the animals and helping with general maintenance. Whether you are away from home for the first time or are an experienced traveller, you will love the family atmosphere that is created at the project. Your help will make a huge difference in aiding conservation and animal welfare, teaching local underprivileged children and building bridges between local and international people. All in all you will be participating to a worthy cause and having a fantastic experience in one!

The Wildlife Orphanage is set in a beautiful nature reserves with granite hills and the most stunning views. It hasn't got the Big Five, but leopard and hyena do roam around next to the general plains game like impala, kudu, wildebeest, zebra and giraffe. You will mostly work in and around the camp, but if you want to and where possible, the project leaders will also take you for walks and drives in the reserve. The game tends to be shy, but the scenery in itself is more than worthwhile already. Besides, it's a great opportunity to pick one of the project leaders' brains and learn from his vast knowledge on the bush and wildlife!
