Example itinerary
DAY 1
Arrive in Barcelona or nearby resort by your chosen mode of transport. Time to settle in and explore the local area before dinner.
Day 2
Breakfast and then onto the coach for the Barcelona City tour with experienced guide. The guide will point out the many points of interest Barcelona has to offer and can answer any questions you may have about the city, Spain and Catalonia. The tour will familiarise the group with the city and they will see many examples of Gaudi's wonderful architecture such as Casa Mila, before stopping to visit his unfinished masterpiece the wonderful Sagrada Familia.
Parc Guell is a great place to have lunch. The park was designed by Gaudí and contains giant decorative lizards, a huge 'Hall of Columns,' and a small museum devoted to the artist. Gaudí used to scour the Barcelona Municipal Rubbish Dump to gather plates and ceramics for the construction of the many mosaics in the park. Students can have their photographs taken in front of the famous mosaic lizard at the entrance to the park.
After lunch visit The Picasso Museum, one of the world's most important collections. Picasso spent much of his youth in Barcelona and maintained close links with his Catalan friends when he left for Paris in 1904. The time he spent in Barcelona encompassed most of his 'Blue Period'.
The collection contains works in ceramics, paintings/sketchings and lino cuttings. Then onto the coach and up to the Hill of Montjuic to the Joan Miro Foundation. This beautiful white building houses 10,000 paintings, sculptures, textiles, ceramics and drawings. At the top of Montjuic you'll get fabulous sketching and photo opportunities, with amazing views across the city.
Day 3
Today will be spent exploring the surreal world of Salvador Dali. The day begins with a visit to the famous Dali Theatre-Museum in the town of Figueres. Inaugurated in 1974, the Dalí Theatre-Museum was built upon the remains of the former Figueres theatre. It contains the broadest range of his works, spanning his entire career. Dali created works expressly for the Theatre-Museum, such as the Mae West Room, the Wind Palace Room, the Monument to Francesco Pujols and the Rainy Cadillac. Also to be seen are works by other artists that Dalí wanted to include: El Greco, Marià Fortuny, Modest Urgell, Ernest Meissonier, Marcel Duchamp, Wolf Vostell, Antoni Pitxot and Evarist Vallès, amongst others.
The Dalí Theatre-Museum has to be seen as a whole, as the great work of Salvador Dalí, for everything in it was conceived and designed by the artist in order to offer visitors a real experience of getting inside his captivating and unique world.
You'll visit Dali's gift to his wife, Gala: The Medieval Castle of Pubol. During the 1970's this was the residence of Gala, and during the 1980's his own. However, since 1996 it has exhibited paintings and drawings given by the artist to his wife. Also to be seen is a collection of Gala Dali's Haute-Couture dresses.
Day 4
Breakfast then into Barcelona to visit the Picasso Museum, one of the world's most important collections.
