The Challenge

Make a difference with this great fund raising idea and long weekend charity challenge - Travel to the beautiful Julian Alps of Slovenia to take part in a range of winter sports activities. Skiing or snow boarding, husky mushing, snow shoeing, tobogganing, snow golf and commando snowballing, as well as spending a night in an igloo - a fantastic opportunity to try out a host of activities, all with no previous experience required!

Based in the spectacular Julian Alps of northern Slovenia, Kransjka Gora, home of the men's downhill World Cup, is the perfect base to try out a range of winter sports and activities.

Interspersed with downhill skiing or snowboarding, try out snow biking, archery, snow golf, husky mushing, ice hockey and tobogganing. Play "Commando Snowballing' in teams as you try to make it across the course without getting hit by your opponents!

And you could even stay a night in an igloo!

In between sports, there will be plenty of opportunity to get some further practice in, or enjoy the spa, sauna and pool facilities of the Hotel Aqua Larix - you won't be bored!

Round off the day socialising with other participants over dinner and winter warmers.

Example winter sports challenge itinerary

Day 1 (Saturday):

Morning flight from London Gatwick to Ljubljana. On arrival, transfer by bus to Krvavec (20 mins) and embark the gondola. At the top, don your show shoes for the first challenge - a 45 minute hike through the woods to the Ice hotel! On arrival a warm drink and a snack await. Then it's time to split into teams for the next activity - ‘silly olympics', which will see you taking part in a range of activities, such as snow biking, archery, snow golf and others - all to score points! After dark has fallen, there is the chance to warm up in the sauna and jacuzzi at the neighbouring lodge before returning to the ice hotel for a hearty dinner. Tonight will be spent in the ice hotel, snuggled up in thermal sleeping bags and sheepskin rugs!

Day 2 (Sunday):

Start the day with a warming breakfast and then it's time to hit the slopes! Complete beginners will be able to experience an introductory skiing lesson whilst experienced skiers and boarders can explore the slopes for a couple of hours before competing in the slalom race! After lunch back at the ice hotel, it's time to head down the mountain by gondola and transfer by bus to the charming resort of Kransjka Gora. Check into your hotel for a chance to shower before dinner. This evening, it's up the slopes with your toboggans for a floodlit descent!

Day 3 (Monday):

This morning we head across the border into Italy where your huskys await! Learn how to ‘mush' as you take it in turns to steer your husky sleigh around the 2km course. This afternoon it's time to hit the ice and take part in a game of fun ice hockey. Today's final activity sees you in teams again for the commando snowball challenge! Pit your wits against the other team as you try to make it across the course without getting hit by your opponents! A farewell dinner tonight, with awards presentation.

Day 4 (Tuesday): After breakfast, there is a chance for keen skiers and boarders to experience the slopes of Kranjska Gora before we depart for the airport this afternoon.

*people will be rated according to their stated ability (novice, intermediate, advanced and expert). For reasons of safety and fairness, we ask people to be honest about their ability. Those suspected of cheating will have points deducted! The judge's decision is final and non-negotiable.
