The Challenge.

Our challenges combine a physical adventure with time spent assisting with a community project in the destination. They make unforgettable trips and can also be undertaken to raise money for a charity of your choice. In Zambia we embark on 5 days of canoeing on the River Zambezi, camping and dining under the stars by night. Our trip includes the opportunity to spend 3 full days assisting on a range of community projects working with African Revival at their base on a farm in Kalomo. Working alongside the local community, perhaps help at the school which has been established to provide educational support to disadvantaged children within the region, as well as health clinics, a nursery and even supporting small local businesses by sharing your skills.

Witness some of Africa's most spectacular scenery and wildlife and put yourself in the shoes of the
19th century European explorers who came here in search of the source of the Nile in this charity challenge. Canoe down the mighty Zambezi River and, if you wish, take the opportunity to volunteeer and stay an extra week to help African Revival with local community development in Kalomo before exploring the mighty Victoria Falls.

Arriving in the Zambia capital of Lusaka we travel south to the stunning Zambezi River and surrounding national park. The Zambezi is Africa's fourth largest river system and runs through six countries on its journey from central Africa to the Indian Ocean and its power carved out the spectacular Victoria Falls and the zigzagging Batoka Gorge. Here the adventure really begins as we spend our days on the charity canoe downstream and our nights camped out on the banks of the river beneath a blanket of stars. This is an absolutely splendid way to appreciate the wonders of Zambia's newest national park and the chance to see a host of wildlife up close.

Example itinerary:

Day 1 - Fly to Lusaka.

Day 2 - Arrive in Lusaka and transfer to the magnificent Lower Zambezi River Valley complete with wild elephants, lions and leopards.

Days 3 to 7 - Embark on a visually stunning and adventurous five day canoe charity challenge on the River Zambezi. Each night we set up camp and dine under the stars with our guides.

Day 8 - Return to Lusaka. Either fly back to the UK or transfer to the town of Kalomo, your base for the next 4 nights.

2008 Extended Option

Days 9 to 11 - We embark on 3 full days of volunteer work on a range of projects in the Kalomo area. This could involve helping at a school or activities with the local community.

Day 12 - Transfer to Livingstone, home to the mighty Victoria Falls.

Day 13 - A well deserved free day to enjoy the falls, and a chance to take part in a range of activities from white-water rafting to bungee jumping and an elephant-back safari!

Day 14 - Return to Lusaka for a final night at the Eureka Lodge

Day 15 - Return flight to the UK.

The Volunteer Project

Make a difference - if you take the longer volunteer opportunity option, rural community projects in Kalomo north of Livingstone will be your focus.

Working with African Revival from their base in Kalomo and their partnerships with local community leaders, you will be undertaking a range of community projects. This could include refurbishing a school, helping to renovate a building for community use, developing sport facilities, or skills sharing with local small businesses.

Finally, visit the breathtaking Victoria Falls - the planet's largest curtain of water, considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World.

Note
This trip can be an open charity challenge for individuals, a bespoke group charity challenge or a corporate trip for CSR and team building.
