Altiplano (High Plateau) of Granada .This large extension of territory, about l00 kilometers long, where the Granada province forms a passage way between the mountains that mark the boundary with the provinces of Jaen, Almeria, Murcia and Albacete, is one of the world's most captivating and exceptional natural regions. An endless plain, which in prehistoric times was a lake, cleft today by rivers forming "oases" where the population carry out their daily lives cultivating the surrounding lands.  What you can see and do

In the north of the province of Granada, nature and culture heritage provide an ideal spot to relax or enjoy adventure. Owing to its geographical location and its archaeological richness, Galera is an extremely appropriate place from which to carry out excursions and visits by land rover, by bicycle, hiking ......or even donkey-riding, (could be an unforgettable adventure), horse-riding, mountain climbing, bungee jumping, cliff hanging, and many others.
From Galera we will have the opportunity to take routes to archaeological sites, Natural Parks, fountains and river sources, villages like Huescar, Orce, ....... as well as all the outdoor sport activities, thereby experiencing nature in all its splendor. Granda and the skiing is only just over an hour away as is the coast.

Each booking receives a book in English on the History of the caves and the area. It also has maps and walks that you can take from Galera in it. 

 How to get here

Easy access to Galera is guaranteed by the nearby motorway AUTOVIA-92 (A-92) which crosses Andalucia from east to west. And close to Granda airport in the West and Murcia airport in the East.

From Seville/Málaga: direction Granada, continuing (without entering into Granada) towards Murcia, leave the motorway about 21 km after passing Baza, exit Cullar.
From France/Barcelona/Alicante: AUTOVIA DEL MEDITERRANEO A-7 (N-340) to A-92 Direction Andalucia-Granada leaving the motorway at the Cullar exit
From Madrid: AUTOVIA DE VALENCIA A-3 until Albacete- follow direction Murcia until Venta de Olivo- turn right direction Calasparra, Caravaca until Caravaca - turn right direction Andalucia, Puebla D. Fadrique, Huescar, Galera.

 Why

 This small town was dying due to all the young people leaving the area, then a local man stated to renovate some of the old cave house that surround the newer part of the town that were abandoned as people moved to new houses. These proved very popular with Spanish taking their holidays and then won a prize for Tourism and people come from all over Europe to stay in these unique caves. The small town is still "real" Spain and tourism is keeping it alive but has not changed its and its inhabitant's identity. There is not much more eco friendly accommodation on the planet than a cave. Come and enjoy real Spain and the real Spanish people.
