Self-guided Canoe Tours in Sweden

Overview

There are three wilderness routes and two rural routes available, with durations from 4 to 14 days. The tours run in the heavily forested region of Värmland in western Sweden. Wild camping is a feature of all the tours. You will plan the distance you wish to cover each day and choose your own camping spot each night. There are limited places to shop on most of the routes and we recommend that you bring all your food with you from the beginning. You will be given a detailed description of the route and, depending on the tour chosen, a map is either included or should be purchased separately. Distances for 7 and 14-day wilderness routes can be increased if required with a number of optional extensions.

Additional information

All our canoe tours are completely self-guided using two-person Canadian canoes. The basic package includes all canoe equipment (canoe, paddles and life vests plus trolley for routes requiring land portages), Trangia-style camping stove with fuel, cooking utensils, plates and cutlery, plus transfer to/from the meeting point and the start/end points of the route if required. Tents and sleeping bag package (sleeping bag, sheet and sleeping mat) can be hired as optional extras. Minimum 2 adults required for all tours.

Why choose a self-guided canoe tour in Sweden?

These experiences are suitable for couples, families or large groups and are popular with scout groups, canoe clubs, student groups and Duke of Edinburgh Gold and Silver expeditions. Sweden offers a unique freedom to camp wild and this is a feature of all our canoe tours.

All our partners in Sweden are small, local companies certified by the Swedish Ecotourism Society for their commitment to high standards of environmental practice and safety and the provider of this experience was a finalist in the TRIP Global Awards for the best tourist experience in Sweden 2008.
