Hidden in the depths of the Kaibab National Forest, the old Arizona Trail creates a unique gateway to the natural grandeur of the Grand Canyon. Lined with wildflowers, the trail takes us through huge ponderosa forests and shimmering aspen groves enroot to an unspoiled panorama of the grand canyon few have witnessed: the East Rim View!

Highlights of this Tour

Our campsite perched upon the edge of the Kaibab Plateau provides us with extraordinary views and the perfect starting point for riding, and hiking along the rim. Crossing to the west side of the plateau, we camp next to one of the most scenic mountain bike paths in the world, the Rainbow Rim Trail. For the next two days we explore 36-miles of remote forested singletrack stretching between spectacular canyon overlooks.

Providing gently rolling terrain and occasional challenges, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon has always been a favorite of guides and guests of all levels. It was one of the first overnight tours we offered, and over the years its popularity has only grown.
The chance to experience one of nature's most awesome sights from the seat of your mountain bike is truly an opportunity of a lifetime.

This tour's support vehicle is fueled exclusively by vegetable oil.

Example of Itinerary

Day 1 | The Arizona Trail
After a quick pre-trip meeting and lunch, we will begin our ride into the forest along the Arizona Trail. As we descend, we'll pass through abundant ponderosa pine forests and many beautiful mountain meadows. This section of the Arizona Trail provides a great warm-up to the riding we'll encounter on this trip. We'll have the opportunity to acclimate, and test the bikes with some sharp climbs and fast descents. Our final ascent up Mission Impossible delivers us to the secluded East Rim of the Grand Canyon, our camp for the next two nights. We'll meet the van half way through the ride for a snack break and an opportunity to catch a ride to camp if you need it.

Total Mileage | 14 miles Camp | East Rim
Terrain | 90% Singletrack, 10% Jeep Road

Day 2 | Arizona Trail, Saddle Mountain Wilderness
Riding from the East Rim, we'll continue along the Arizona Trail for nine miles of rolling singletrack and beautiful scenery. We'll meet the support van to regroup and enjoy a quick snack before continuing our ride through the forest. After 7 miles of Jeep road riding, classic Grand Canyon views again fill our sights. We'll stop at the viewpoint for lunch and then begin a challenging out-and-back hike. The hike is strenuous, but the sense of adventure and incredible views all along the way of Point Imperial and beyond make for a great way to end our day.
We may even see a Perigrene Falcon or condor soaring nearby! After the hike we'll shuttle back to our East Rim base camp for the evening.

Total Mileage | 17 miles biking + 5 miles hiking Camp | East Rim
Terrain | 70% Singletrack, 30% Jeep Road, 30% Van Support

Day 3 | North Timp Point
Today's ride is a combination of double track and fire roads that lead us over to our second camp. On this section of riding we'll navigate through the deep backcountry of Kaibab National Forest. If we're lucky we'll catch glimpses of wildlife along the way. Once we reach camp we're treated to an awe-inspiring view of the main part of the canyon. Over the next two days. We'll have plenty of time to enjoy the view and contemplate the forces of nature that created this remarkable monument. After lunch, relax at camp or venture out on an optional singletrack ride or hike along the Rainbow Rim trail. We all gather together again for dinner and another awesome sunset as we lookout upon the Tapeats Amphitheater of the Grand Canyon.
Total Mileage | 25-31 miles Camp | North Timp Point
Terrain | 80% Jeep Road, 20% Singletrack, 70% Van Support

Day 4 | Rainbow Rim Trail
Today we ride along the most scenic singletrack bike trail, ever! Our 30-mile out and back ride along the Rainbow Rim Trail has over 20 different Grand Canyon viewpoints! Along the way we are sure to observe an abundance of wildlife. Since we bring our lunches out on the trail today, you can take your break and head back to camp whenever you are ready; ride as much or as little as you would like. The guides will be available for trailside assistance, but the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace. We return to camp for another hearty home-cooked meal at North Timp Point.
Total Mileage | 30 miles Camp | North Timp Point
Terrain | 100% Singletrack, No Van Support

Day 5 | Indian Hollow
Today we continue our exploration with more fun riding. Our trip begins with a gentle ascent, but that initial section is followed by a rolling section with 4 big climbs and descents over 7 miles. The last section of our ride is a gradual downhill, leading us into Indian Hollow. We've reached our lunch spot, but we'll get in a quick hike before lunch to checkout the viewpoint that lies at the top of the trail. After saying our goodbyes to the majestic canyon, we head back down to enjoy our last camp meal together. Following lunch we shuttle back into town.
Total Mileage | 12-15 miles
Terrain | 100% Jeep Road, 60% Van Support
